Vesna Kat is a composer, sound artist, and vocalist based in Cologne. In her artistic practice, she explores sound and music as forms of speculative storytelling, drawing on the sonic aesthetics of possible pasts and futures. She combines experimental electroacoustic soundscapes, voice, and choral singing with narrative forms drawn from folk traditions, fables, and fairy tales.
Vesna Kat’s work is deeply inspired by the landscapes and cultural contexts of her place of origin. She develops her projects through a research-led production process in which photographic sketches, site-specific research, and field recordings serve as starting points for her compositional and improvisational practice. Through this approach, her works open up relational perspectives on environment, experience, and community, offering alternative ways of imagining beyond hegemonic narratives of societal progress.
Alongside her solo practice, Vesna Kat regularly collaborates with artists from performance, film, and the visual arts, including within the durational lecture performance Subfuturisms. Tales of Technofeudalism, Mapping Waidmarkt x Brutalism as well as for the guterstoff festival for experimental music in 2026.
Vesna Kat ist Komponistin, Klangkünstlerin und Sängerin aus Köln. In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis erforscht sie Klang und Musik als Formen spekulativen Erzählens und schöpft dabei aus den klanglichen Ästhetiken möglicher Vergangenheiten und Zukünfte. Sie verbindet experimentelle elektroakustische Soundscape, Stimme und Chorgesang mit Erzählformen aus Volkstraditionen und Märchen.
Vesna Kats Arbeit ist tief von den Landschaften und kulturellen Kontexten ihrer Herkunft geprägt. Sie entwickelt ihre Projekte in einem forschungsbasierten Produktionsprozess, in dem fotografische Skizzen, ortsspezifische Recherche und Field Recordings als Ausgangspunkte ihrer kompositorischen und improvisatorischen Praxis dienen. Auf diese Weise eröffnen ihre Arbeiten relationale Perspektiven auf Umwelt, Erfahrung und Gemeinschaft und bieten alternative Möglichkeiten des Imaginierens jenseits hegemonialer Fortschrittserzählungen.
Neben ihrer solistischen Praxis arbeitet Vesna Kat regelmäßig mit Künstler*innen aus den Bereichen Performance, Film und bildende Kunst zusammen, unter anderem im Rahmen der Durational Lecture-Performance Subfuturisms.
